Several greens are bordered by magnificent trees some of which are over 250 yeards old. The course is made easier by its great width. Only by personal experience can this phrase, repeated by many good players, be proved correct: "Montreux - easy to walk but difficult to succeed!" The Montreux Gold Course is undergoing alterations designed by the celebrated architect Ronald Fream, who has some interesting plans for the course: - complete remodelling of the 18 greens, their approach and their bunkers - creation of 3 lakes - total remodelling of 4 holes - implementation of bunkers on the fairway Information: Handicap needed : 36

It was during this period that English visitors discovered the natural beauty of the wide, grassy slopes between the forests of Montana and the mountain pastures of Lens. The majestic view offered on this balcony over the entire Rhone valley, with its woods and streams charmed gentleman sportsman and inspired them with the idea of introducing the sports that they engaged in at home into this idyllic spot. More greens have been added constantly ever since, and the best players in the world have succumbed to the natural beauty of the place. Here, golf is part of the resort. Golfing magazines have included one of the four courses, the famous 18-hole circuit named after its designer, Severiano Ballesteros, in their lists of the most beautiful courses in the world. Every year it hosts the European Masters, the most prestigious golf tournament on this continent after the British Open. Crans-Montana is becoming THE golf destination. It is time to relax, it is time to enter a new dimension! « The mountains and the views are just spectacular! Crans-Montana is a wonderful place!» (Ernie Els) The 9-hole «Jack Nicklaus» course also enables every player to meet unforgettable challenges in a natural environment. For beginners (those without a handicap), there are the «Super-Crans» and «Noas» courses. At Crans-sur-Sierre, since 1951, a 9-hole course plays an important role in complimenting the 18 hole Plan-Bramois. Originally laid out as a short, tight course, the 9 holes were totally transformed in 1986 to become (when re-opened in July 1988) the Jack Nicklaus course. Intended as the first half of a second 18-hole course, the full project will hopefully be completed soon. The Haut-Plateau always wanted to offer golf in the summer, but is wasn't until the Seventies that the notion of a second 18-hole course saw the light of day. In 1977, Crans called on Jack Nicklaus who was enthusiastic about the prospect of creating his first course in Switzerland. In May 1981, the contract with the American Champion, for the construction of the course, was signed. It then took four years to obtain all the necessary authorization before work could begin on the 9 holes (six from the old, small course and three situated on adjacent land). Ever since the summer of 1988, golfers have enjoyed the delights of the "Jack Nicklaus". Relatively short, the course is not too arduous for the average player, and yet it can satisfy everyone from beginner to expert. It is a varied course requiring technique to master the fairways which are never straight (several being dog legs), the well-designed obstacles (deep, natural bunkers) and its terrain rich in hills, both natural and landscaped.
